Washing my hands for 20 seconds is adequate.


TRUE. Singing Happy Birthday to yourself is the amount
of time you should spend washing your hands.


Thawing frozen meat at room temperature is safe.


FALSE. Food should be defrosted in a refrigerator, microwave,
or under cool running water.


If the power goes off, a fully loaded freezer can keep foods frozen for 2 days.
TRUE. Provided the door is not opened.


The type of cutting board I use does not matter.


FALSE. Plastic cutting boards harbor less bacteria than wooden cutting
boards. Cutting boards should be washed and sanitized with a solution
of 1 teaspoon of chlorine bleach to 1 quart of water after cutting meat,
poultry, or fish.
